Email goes down

We hear about disaster recovery in the context of hurricanes, tornadoes, floods and other major disasters. However, I spoke with someone earlier today who works in a 12-story building in Reston, Virginia. Yesterday, a snake crawled into a transformer and knocked out power to the building and one across the street for most of the day -- power was restored around midnight on Thursday night. Not only was power knocked out, but email was unavailable until the power was restored.

Disaster recovery is one of those issues that many don't consider adequately until something like this occurs.
