Spam volumes are on the increase
The disconnection of McColo in November had a major impact on spam: worldwide spam volumes dropped by more than 50%. However, many predicted that spam would increase in the weeks following - and they were right.
A review of the IronPort's SenderBase daily spam data reveals that spam is once again increasing. For example, for the seven days ended December 16th, there was an average of 101.2 billion spam messages per day; for the seven days ended December 9th, an average of 89.8 billion spam messages were sent; the period ending December 2nd saw an average of 68.7 billion spams per day.
