Early thoughts on Snow Leopard

Although I have both a Windows PC and a Mac on my desktop, the Mac is the machine I use more often. I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and have a few initial thoughts:

  • Lots of very useful, albeit subtle features, that make the overall user experience more enjoyable and generally easier.
  • Much faster shutdown and somewhat faster bootup, although the latter is not as noticeable as the former.
  • Apple Mail, iCal and Address Book with Exchange support (I use hosted Exchange) works very well overall, although there are a few glitches, as noted below.
  • Mail glitch #1: when creating a To Do event and specifying "Tomorrow" as the delivery date, "Today" comes up instead. Entourage has much more refined tools for managing tasks, such as popping up a calendar when specifying a due date.
  • Even more serious Mail glitch #2: when copying a bunch of draft emails so that each can be personalized and sent individually, Apple Mail will sometimes delete 30+ of the draft emails when sending just one.
  • Syncing between Windows Mobile and Apple Mail, iCal and Address Book seems to work with no problems.
  • Combining PDFs in Leopard was easier and more intuitive than in Snow Leopard.
  • Some applications won't run under Snow Leopard, although the major ones (e.g., Microsoft Office 2008) have no problems.
More thoughts to follow.
