As email has become the communications tool of choice for people in organizations of all sizes, mail servers are being overwhelmed by the sheer number of email accounts being added to them, coupled with rapidly growing volumes of legitimate email. Add to this the growing volume of spam, which increased by 100% during just a six month period during 2006; the increasing size of spam messages caused by newer spam variants like image spam and PDF spam; viruses; spyware and other threats that burden email systems.
